“Hope Project” was started in the October of 1989.It aimed to help children in poor areas to receive proper education.

Almost everyone in citiesfrom government officialsbusinessmen to common peopleis very active in offering their money to the project.From 1989 to 19971.257 million yuan was collected;1.847000 children were helped back to schools;5.256 Hope Primary Schools were set up and hundreds of teachers teaching in those schools were trained.The project will continue to improve school conditions in poor areas and promote the development of education in China.

“希望工程”开始于1989年10月。它旨在帮助贫困地区儿童接受适当的教育。

2project Hope

In class,our teacher told us something about Project Hope.She said some children in the country couldn't go to school because their parents were too poor to send their children to school.She called on us to help out.

After school I returned home.I was greatly moved by this.What should I do for Project Hope?I was wondering about this when I saw the money collection box on the table.Then I decided to send my pocket money,which I had saved for nearly one year,to the children who wanted to go to school.I wrote a letter to them and hurried to the post office.Together with the letter, I posted the money and sent my best wishes to them.

在课堂上,老师对我们讲了关于希望工程的事情。她说在这个国家一些孩子不能去学校,因为他们的父母太穷送他们的孩子去上学。她呼吁我们帮忙。

3The Hope Project

Today our teacher told us something about the Hope Project. We heard that many children in the countryside still had no chance to go to school.

"They are too poor to go" the teacher said. After the class I went back home and saw the little box in which I saved my pocket money. I wanted to buy myself a new school bag. But now I thought of the country children who longed to go to school. So I decided to send my money to them. I started to write a letter to them right away. After finishing it I went to the post office and mailed the letter together with all my pocket money. I hope it could help.

今天我们的老师告诉我们关于希望工程的事。我们知道在农村还有许多孩子没有机会上学。

老师说：“他们太穷了不能去上学。”下课后，我回到家看了放有我零花钱的小盒子。我本想为自己买一个新书包。但现在我想农村的孩子渴望上学，于是我决定把我的钱寄给他们。我立刻给他们写信，写完后，我去邮局，把信连同我所有的零花钱寄了出去。我希望这钱能对他们有帮助。
