Countable and uncountable nouns

可数和不可数名词

A countable noun refers to something we can count. Here are some examples.

可数名词指我们能数的事物。这是一些例子。

Countable nouns(singular)

可数名词（单数）

an apple一个苹果

a carrot一个胡萝卜

a cake一块蛋糕

Countable nouns(plural)

可数名词（复数）

two apples两个苹果

six carrots六个胡萝卜

ten cakes十块蛋糕

We use a or an before a singular countable noun. If the noun starts with a vowel sound,we use an.

我们在单数可数名词前用“a”或者“an”。如果名词以元音音素开头，我们用“an”。

I want to buy a hamburger.

我想要买一个汉堡包。

I want to buy a cake

我想要买一个蛋糕。

I want to buy an egg.

我想要买一个鸡蛋。

I want to buy an orange.

我想要买一个橘子。

To form the plural of most countable nouns,we add -s to the singular form However,there are some exceptions.

我们在可数名词单数形式后加“s”来构成大多数可数名词的复数形式。然而，下面是一些特殊情况。

Nouns ending in aconsonant+y -y+ies
